From Mallorca Taxi Service, we wish for all of you to discover the different treasures, town by town, of Mallorca, the island where the mountains and the sea come together.
This month it is Alaró’s turn, and it’s an especially charming town. There are its streets, its people, its traditions, and very famous castle (Castell d’Alaró), which many tourists and locals feel tempted to climb.
It is located on the western side of the island and borders on other towns such as Consell, Binisalem, Lloseta, Mancor del Valle, Escorca, Buñola, and Santa María del Camino. It is one of the island’s most beautiful places and offers numerous excursions for you to discover the heart of the island.
The famous Castell d’Alaró was involved in the Reconquest of Mallorca, it being a key piece of that historic event.
Nowadays it is a fixture for outings both on foot and by car. In addition, one of the most typical Sunday plans is to stop and eat at the Castillo de Alaró restaurant, which specializes in traditional Mallorcan cuisine.
As a curiosity, it should be noted that Alaró was the first town in Mallorca to have electricity. The inauguration of the first electrical network occurred on August 15th, 1901, and coincided with the town’s Patron Saint festivities, the first to take place in the 20th century. The town got all dressed up and prepared to receive a multitude of visitors to see the spectacle.
Despite it now being a well-established fact, the old electric plant’s tower was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage) by the Consell Insular de Mallorca in the year 2000. This tower was restored a year later to mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of electricity to the town.
The scenery, culture, history, and abundant curiosities motivate us to head to Alaró and to invite all of you to uncover its secrets.
